Converts to 16-bit / 44.1 kHz stereo WAV, the format distributors ask for.
Converting an MP3 to WAV meets the format requirement, but it can't bring back detail the MP3 already lost. When you can, export WAV straight from your session.
Why WAV?
- DISTRIBUTORS REQUIRE ITMost distributors only accept WAV (16 or 24-bit, 44.1 kHz). MP3 uploads get rejected or re-encoded badly.
- WHAT YOU GETStandard 16-bit / 44.1 kHz stereo WAV, the exact format stores expect.
- FILE SIZEWAV is roughly 10 MB a minute, about ten times an MP3. That's normal.
Does DistroKid accept MP3?
DistroKid accepts MP3 but recommends WAV. TuneCore, CD Baby and most other distributors want WAV or FLAC. Uploading WAV avoids a second round of compression in the stores.
16-bit or 24-bit?
16-bit / 44.1 kHz is CD quality and is accepted everywhere. If your session exported 24-bit, keep that original: it's the better master.
Is my song uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion happens in your browser using your own device, so unreleased music stays on your computer or phone.
